"Depuis longtemps" says the art of the impromptu meeting between people of good company.
Tony Malaby has been wanting to "do something" with Louis Sclavis for some time.
When the trio of Richard Bonnet, Tony and Sylvain Darrifourcq joined our concert season in 2018, we invited Louis Sclavis to join the team.
The clarinets and saxophones of these two major figures of today's jazz sing in unison, but not only. The deep sound of Richard Bonnet, who signs three of the four compositions on this album, reminds us that he creates the cement of this ephemeral ensemble under construction. Sylvain Darrifourcq's inventiveness, his rubbed and struck skins and metals, holds a preciously singular place in this scaffolding put together from scratch by these very protagonists.
The overall sound stretches like a cat in the sun. The word circulates, questions, answers the questioning of one, then suggests a new subject to follow, then escapes, but the cohesion of the whole is made, forges an almost magical alloy, made up of as many stories of men as territories of sound hunting open to horizons that are invented as they go along. Each one tells his own story, but the tour de force, as is often the case in this music, means that the story of each person, woven by so many different threads of memory, is brought together in this unique moment.
The meeting took place. This record bears witness to it, traces it and says that beyond differences, inventing-together builds the world of today, of tomorrow.
